Look Great Without Makeup

Getting enough sleep is absolutely crucial to looking your best in the morning. I am sure we have all experienced going out late and then waking up really early the next day for work – only to look really, really terrible. What would we do in a situation like that? Slap on tons of make up on our faces so we would look at least presentable of course! Well, that says a lot about the importance of a good night’s sleep. If we get enough sleep, we will wake up with a fresh face, ie. no puffy eyes, no eye bags, no dehydrated skin and no tired-looking face. With a fresh face, we can go anywhere without makeup and still look great!

I love it when people are generous with their smile. When one smiles, it instantly brightens up the whole face – and the whole room. You won’t need any makeup when you wear a smile on your face.

I think this goes without saying. No one could possibly look good bare-faced when they do not take care of their own hygiene. Even those who do wear makeup need to have clean personal hygiene. Personal hygiene includes having clean hair, clean nails, clean teeth, clean clothes, fresh breathe and well… it generally means a clean you!

Stand tall and proud. While this may not have anything directly to do with your face, your posture makes a big difference to how you look. Compare two people who are without makeup: one who slouches and one who stands (or sits) straight. Which of them will leave a better impression? All things being equal, the slouchy one would come across as someone who seems unkempt, while the proud one would come across as someone who takes care of herself and thus, looks better.

Yes, confidence is everything. If you get enough sleep, you smile, you have a good personal hygiene and you keep your posture right BUT you are lacking in confidence… then it will show. As women nowadays wear makeup so often, a lot of them would feel quite naked and vulnerable when they are stripped of their makeup. Suddenly their confidence level would go down and they would feel very self-conscious about being seen bare-faced. Therefore, being confident and comfortable in your own skin are crucial to looking great without makeup because you know makeup or not – you are still you and you are proud to be you! And remember – true beauty is from within…

How To Apply Makeup In The Evening

  1. Make sure you use your eyeliner correctly. Eyeliner is much easier when using a pencil. Choose the right pencil shade for your and make sure it is sharp. Make sure the tip of the pencil is a smooth and pointy finish to make it easier to apply. Keep the skin tight and hold the eyeliner with a steady hand and start from the outside corner of the eye following the lash line. Don’t go on the eyelid too much follow the eyelash hair. Remember you can always add more so start with a small sharp line and add more later if you wish. Once you have finished put on lots of mascara on the eyelashes. If you use false eyelashes, add these at the end of application.
  2. Choose the right eyeshadow color. Decide whether you suit cool shades such as light blue, light pink or yellow or dark shades such as brown, deep blue, red. Choose a color that suits your skin type and clothing. A hot shade and trend for eyeshadow is purple. If you are not that bold, you can settle for shades of pink, brown or beige depending on your skin tone. Metallic colors like gold and silver are also perfect for evenings.
  3. Another great trend for the evening is a smoky eye. To achieve a smokey eye look you can use any color shade. The rule is to start with the deepest shade on the eyelid till the crease and gradually go lighter as you go up your eye crease. Use the brightest shade of the same color on the inner eye corner in shape of a question mark. The darkest color also goes below your lower eyelashes.
  4. Keep the lip color simple. If you decide to have dramatic eyes make sure your lips are soft and vice versa. Be sure to choose a color that suits your eyeshadow and clothing. You can mix shades of gloss or lipstick to get your desired shade. Apply lip liner first, followed by lipstick, followed by lip gloss to ensure your lip color lasts all night!
  5. Dramatic eyebrow is another makeup tip for the evening. High fashion designers such as Nina Ricci and Prada are embracing a dramatic eyebrow look. The rest of the foundation is kept nude with a bit of concealer and shimmer to the cheeks. Your eyebrows should be 2 shades darker than your hair color. Use a brow pencil to contour your eyebrows.

The rule of dramatic eye makeup is that you keep the other part of your face neutral. Use a lipstick that is as close to your natural lip color as possible. A slight touch of blush on the cheeks and you are ready for your evening function.

Small Eyes Makeup to Look More Attractive

What you need to do is remember all the small eyes makeup tips that you have heard or read in beauty magazines. Some thing will eventually come to you. And if it doesn’t, then don’t fret! You can improvise. All you need is a base, two primary colors, eyeliner and mascara. The base should be skin color. Any liquid or powder base foundation will do. The last thing you need is to be worry about using branded makeup!

After applying a little skin color foundation to your eyelids, pick your small eyes makeup eye shadow colors. At this point it is better to choose colors that match your wardrobe. However, if your wardrobe consists of bright colors such as yellow, pink or orange, then your best bet would be to pick eye shadow colors that match with everything. Some small eyes makeup tips are to use colors like brown and olive green if you want to go for the ‘natural look’, red and charcoal black if you want to stand out and essentially any colors that capture your attention…chances are they will capture the attention of others too!

Then, the eyeliner comes – an essential for small eyes makeup. This should be black to be safe. Draw carefully over and under the eyelids. You may use liquid eyeliner if you truly want your eyes to be noticed as it is more ‘daring’ and ‘striking’ than the usual pencil eye liner. Then, the last step is to apply mascara. Apply generously without smudging. This should also be black although there are clear ones in the market. And there it is…small eyes makeup tips that can change your appearance in a second!

Youngsters have the benefit of already having natural & young looking skin, so the use of their make up should be natural & as light as probable. Subtle is best with teens, & make up should match the youngsters skin tone as much as probable. There are many make up tips for teenagers that will change your teen into a natural loveliness without being too apparent about it!

The “concealer” is used as an extra for covering acne, blemishes, dark circles or any defects. A concealer must be light enough to match your skin tone, but murky enough to coat what it has to. After concealer, a glow foundation may be used. With youth, this step is possibly not even necessary, as most youth skin tones are by now even. The next stride is to apply a light dusting of looks powder. One of the best make up tips for teenagers is to stroke powder on sparingly; you don’t want it to look coated on. A foundation with an SPF of 20 or higher is also suggested for use, as it helps guard the skin from the damaging sun’s rays.

Next, begin at the top. Use an old tooth brush to brows the eye brows into place. Pluck any drift hairs. You can use a supple eye pencil to fill in any holes you may have in your eye brows, but again with youngsters, this step may not be essential. Next, you can put up a thin line of eyeliner on the top of the eye, right above the eye lashes, & blend it in well. You might apply a bit on the lower eyes, as well, but not excessively that you look like a raccoon.

Makeup For Brown Eyes

The next thing you need to consider is the one rule of makeup that will always guide you: Light colors bring out, make larger and highlight. Dark colors recede, minimize or contour. So with this in mind you could work with dark eyeliner and light eye shadow colors to emphasize your dark chocolate eyes with black liner, mascara, a smudge of pale pink eye shadow, and finish with lightly flushed cheeks and make your lips your signature. Create lip focus with a red or berry stain. To pull color focus from your eyes, giving the illusion of lighter eyes, go for a deeper shade of lip color.

Dark brown eyes are very versatile when it comes to color accents, and dark brown eyes are such a beautiful feature to have, I would play them up. Compliment your brown eyes with pale pinks, or accent the brown with gold and deep rusts. Have you tried using eyeliner to add definition? One look is to use one sheer glittery eye shadow used all over in combination with a softly smudged liner for a more sophisticated look.

I would definitely recommend you have a play with colored eyeliners. Dark brown eyes look stunning lined in shades of plum mix with a pale mauve shadow, aubergine mix with a shimmery light pink shadow, raisin mix with a mushroom soft brown shadow. Just remember to combine with a lighter shadow or your eyes may look more dramatic. There are various methods of using eyeliner. Pencils are the most versatile eye-defining tools, as you can start softly, blending each layer back if it starts to become too heavy looking. Pencil can be smudged softly, or add depth under an eye shadow for a muted look, or used alone for strongly defined eyes.

Liquid eyeliner is much more dramatic, and can be applied over top of your eye pencil for added intensity, or used under eye shadow to enhance your eye shape. Both of these techniques ensure longwearing eyeliner.

For the most natural way to line your eyes, use a small, firm brush and apply eye shadow as your eyeliner. Make the most of your dark brown eyes, using soft pinks to really bring them out. Use brown mascara for day, and a black/brown mascara for evening or special occasions. Keep eyeliner to a minimum though. Just use it to softly frame your eyes. Avoid all black as it tends to be too strong. Chocolates, deep plums and charcoals smudged into your lashes will do the trick. You might like to try adding a very subtle contour in a soft mushroom color on your brow bone just above your crease and blend this softly.

On the days you feel like your eyes need a pick-me-up, jazz up your eye make-up a little. Graduating your eye makeup from at your lash line to your brow will give your eyes more depth. Use the darkest shade along your lash line, and merge into lighter shades nearer your brow. Contouring and shading can create the illusion of different eye shapes. By using dark to minimize and light to make larger, you can play with altering the length and size of your eyes. ?

If you just want to keep it simple, sweep a shimmery pastel shadow all over your lid, curl your lashes, apply 2 to 3 coats dark grey charcoal or dark brown mascara, and add a few individual false lashes on the outer corner of your eyes!

Eyebrow Makeup Tricks

  • Eyebrow Filling
Eyebrow filling is a neat trick to know when you are doing eyebrow makeup. Simply brush your eyebrows downwards with a dry mascara wand, or an eyebrow shaper if you have access to it.

Accentuate the arch by using an eyebrow pencil to sketch in a line by the upper edges of your eyebrow. Then comb both of your eyebrows up and out.

If you have over tweezed your brows, just use your eyebrow shaper brush to brush all the hair to the direction of the growth and dust any patches that can still be seen with powder. Do not add to the top or the bottom, and there you have it, your perfectly filed eyebrows.

  • Get Perfect Eyebrows
Use your eyebrow shaper to brush the brows upwards. Then trim any excessive hair growing at the top of your natural arch. Make sure that you do not take too much out of the ends or you will leave a visible bald spot on your brows.

Fill in any areas which have less hair with a sharp brow pencil. Use quick, deft strokes to draw in the hair. If your brows are very thin, use brow powder to define them and to give them a more natural look.

Use the brow brush to sweep the powder up and outwards over your eyebrows. If this is the first time you are working with your brows, try getting your hands on a tinted brow gel which is the perfect eyebrow makeup for keeping brows in place.

Coat the gel upward and outwards and finally wipe off any excess gel and leave it to set. When it gets set, you will be left with a pair of gorgeous, perfectly defined eyebrows.

  • Some Things to Remember about Eyebrow Makeup
There are so many products today designed to help you keep your brows in shape. There are eyebrow masks, stencils, and fillers. With so many options in eyebrow makeup, there is absolutely no excuse for having unsightly eyebrows in this day and age.

Guide To Makeup Brushes

The first thing you need to do when buying makeup brushes is to sit down and consider your budget. Keep in mind that a high-quality set of makeup brushes will last for a few years if they are properly maintained. Brushes that are durable and made from quality materials are going to be more expensive than brushes that are typically found in drugstores. Costly brushes are well worth the investment, because they will allow you to apply your makeup evenly.

The foundation brush is a brush that will aid you in applying foundation to your face. The foundation brush is an essential tool, because it helps to keep oils and dirt away from your face. When you apply foundation using your hands, you risk getting oils in your pores that could potentially cause you to break out or get blackheads.

The powder brush needs to be light and fluffy. It is designed for gently sweeping powder over your face – the powder helps to reduce visible shine and keep your makeup in place. The powder brush is often larger than the foundation brush, and it is very easy to use.

The blusher brush looks very similar to the powder brush, except that it is smaller. It is designed for the application of blush or bronzer onto the cheeks. You do not need to press firmly with the blusher brush in order to get the defined cheekbones that you desire.

The concealer brush is small and will allow you to apply concealer onto the specific places where it is needed. The handle of a concealer brush is typically very easy to control, and the bristles are flat for effective blending.

The eyebrow brush helps to ensure that your eyebrow hairs are in perfect place. This brush can be used to separate the brows or to push hairs toward their ideal location. The eyebrow brush should be used lightly so that it does not cause injury.

All of these makeup brushes will help you to achieve a beautiful look. With practice, you will be able to control the brushes easily. Remember to clean them on a regular basis.

Makeup For Traveling

Pack Small and Pack Light

The current federal airline regulations say you can take only one personal bag with you on the plan, and you can have liquids as long as they’re in a clear quart-sized Ziploc bag. That super-size bottle of hairspray that you love isn’t going to make it onto the plane – anything over 3.4 ounces will get taken away from you.

So if you really want to take anything bigger than this, you’ll have to carry it in your suitcase, which really messes things up. You’ll have to wait until you claim your luggage after you land before you can get to your hair products and fix your hair and makeup. A Little Prelude

Any solid items you’re taking on your trip can be kept in your purse. This includes items like your face powder, blush and lipstick. For your liquid makeup and perfume, use travel-sized bottles. But a word of caution: don’t wear perfume while you’re on the plane.

Simplicity Is Key

Travel gives you a great opportunity to wear less makeup than you usually would. All you need is some blush, a good lip gloss, and 2-3 coats of mascara. You can wash your hair as you usually do, just keep the style simple. You don’t need to worry about curling or teasing for effect. Hairstyles usually are wrecked by the thinner atmosphere anyway. Just let your hair flow free, or if you want to add some interest, add a colorful scarf.

The only allowance airlines will make for the liquid rule is for those who have a medical condition. And since concealer is hardly a medical necessity (at least we don’t think it is), you’ll just have to wait until you land to get to your beauty supplies. Shaded glasses always look attractive and give you cleaner, well put-together look; you can also wear bright earrings to add a touch of color. In no time at all your plane will be landing and when it does, you’ll look amazing.

Oily Skin Makeup

Over the years I’ve learned how to cope with some very useful products and tips that I’m sure will benefit you as well:

  • Blot powder – This is a wonderful product that I carry around with me everyday in my purse. It comes in a compact with a powder puff, similar to sheer powder. Instead of touching up with more makeup or sheer powder, I use blot powder. It’s translucent, so I can get rid of the oiliness without caking more makeup onto my face. Another advantage is that my makeup lasts longer because I’m not reapplying it throughout the day.
  • Blotting papers – These can be found anywhere – from beauty supply stores to cosmetic counters. These are small oil-absorbing sheets of paper that come in a small package that you can easily carry around with you throughout the day. All you have to do is dab the oily areas of your face – typically the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. The papers will absorb the oil without leaving a powdery substance on your face or removing your makeup.
  • Oil-control lotion – You can purchase this at almost any cosmetic counter. It’s very easy to apply and you can wear it under your makeup. Just dab a little on the oily areas of your face and blend outward. It controls shine and provides a matte finish. Most oil-control lotions work really well, but you may have to decrease the use if you find that your skin gets dry and starts flaking.
  • Facial Tissue – When all else fails, grab a sheet of tissue paper! Besides using a blot powder, facial tissue is another product that I use throughout the day as well. Most are 2-ply, but it works better if you separate them and use 1-ply. They’re almost as useful as the blotting papers, and a lot cheaper too! Try to avoid buying ones that have fragrance or color because it may irritate your skin and cause breakouts.
  • Cleanser/Moisturizer – Neither of these will absorb oil or block out the production, but they should be part of your everyday skincare routine. Always opt for a cleanser that is oil-free, and there are some great ones that are specifically made for oily skin. Your moisturizer should be water based with SPF15 or greater and be labeled as “noncomedogenic”. Your cleansing and moisturizing routine should be implemented morning and night to avoid clogging pores.
  • Foundation makeup – Should be labeled “oil free” to prevent adding unnecessary oil to your face. Because I love a matte look, my everyday foundation contains powder, and comes in a powder compact. Foundation that is water-based or oil free come in various shades for many cosmetics lines, so you should not have a problem finding one that is right for you.
